Jeff Mariola
President

Jeff Mariola is President of Initial Tropical Plants, the world’s largest interior landscape company, which services over 25,000 customers in the United States and Canada. Mariola oversees over 1,200 employees in 43 North American offices. Initial Tropical Plants is a subsidiary of Rentokil Initial plc, a publicly traded international business-to-business service organization based in the UK. Mariola has guided the company through many acquisitions which have dramatically increased the company’s North American footprint. The company produces annual revenues of over $109 million and is the only national supplier in the business-to-business interior plants sector.

Mariola, who was appointed the company’s president in 1999, is a leading advocate about the importance of improving the quality of life in the workplace by bringing people and plants together. “Our research and development team leads the way in quantifying and qualifying the psychological benefits of plants. Interior plants are shown to reduce absenteeism, and clearly improve the well-being and productivity of people at work,” says Jeff Mariola.

Mariola joined the company 21 years ago and has held a variety of management positions. Prior to his current position, Mariola served as President of Atlanta-based Rentokil Pest Control from 1996 to 1999. Mariola was promoted to Branch Manager of the South Florida Pest Control business in 1988. Mariola began his career at Rentokil Initial as a Branch Manager of Rentokil Pest Control’s Akron, Ohio branch in 1984. Mariola, an avid opera fan, lives with his family in a Chicago suburb.

The Importance of Interior Plants for Schools, Colleges, Universities and Technical/Trade Schools

Countless studies have shown that atmosphere and surroundings can profoundly affect learning, and that interior plants in schools can make an enormous contribution to the learning environment.

Interior plants for colleges, plantscaping at universities, and real or replica plants in technical schools can all make a significant difference in the interior school environment. In addition to students and teachers being more attentive and less stressed, school attendance figures are also higher when school plants are used in school interiors.

The interior plant design at this university cafeteria at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD has the feel of a conservatory or garden room. The use of hanging plant baskets and planted window troughs add beauty and life without taking up valuable floor space.

The interior plant use at this university includes a newly installed atrium. The large trees are stunning, old olives (Olea europaea) that complement the character of this renowned university.

Our college indoor plant installations include Palm Beach Community College in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This college wanted interior school plants for their new student lounge to create a more pleasant, inviting environment, but live plants were a concern for a number of reasons. Lifelike replica plants were selected, with special attention to the base of the plants. Resin river rock and lifelike moss in the school’s plant containers added aesthetics and authenticity, but met all requirements for safety and durability.

The Key Role of Plants in Shopping Malls

The success of a shopping mall hinges on more than just providing a place for consumers to buy things. Successful malls are about the shopping experience, which means creating an environment that’s inviting and provides a place for fun, recreation and leisure.

Interior mall plants have a critical role to play in creating the shopping mall atmosphere. Interior plants –whether live mall plants or artificial mall plants — add warmth, beauty and class to a shopping mall. Interior mall plants help direct pedestrian traffic flow, create soothing rest areas, visually separate space, reduce noise levels, and add an aura of atmosphere to mall food courts. In general, mall interior plants enhance the overall image, experience and market positioning of any mall.

The Galleria Shopping Center in Roseville, CA, features beautiful live mall plants in large bowl-shaped planters to display a variety of lush, tropical plants, many of which flower.

The Chesterfield Mall in St. Louis, Missouri won a prestigious Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) award for outstanding interior mall plant care. These pictures clearly show how interior mall plants add warmth, beauty and atmosphere to a shopping mall. View the Initial Tropical Plants Awards page to learn more about our industry accomplishments.

Initial Tropical Plants provides mall live plants, mall artificial plants, interior mall plant design, installation and maintenance to malls throughout North America and the world.

Financial Office Plants

In recent years, the financial services industry has adopted a more tranquil, inviting look than their office environments had in the past. One way financial industries have achieved this warmer look and feel is by adding indoor plants as an important element of their financial office décor.

Financial office indoor plants can have a dramatic effect on financial buildings or financial offices. These pictures are of a recently installed indoor plant display in a financial services company in Chicago. The modern, almost industrial, style of the plant containers was chosen to complement the dark stone decor of the offices. Color under planting provides a point of brightness against the austere interior.

This indoor plant display at the Royal Bank of Canada’s London offices has been recognized with a Silver Award of Excellence at the 2004 eFIG interior landscaping awards ceremony. This financial business office plant project posed some interesting maintenance challenges because of low light levels and indoor plant beds set high above the floor level. But these pictures make clear the impact that indoor office plants have made in this financial building, and can make in any financial building or office. View the Initial Tropical Plants Awards page to learn more about our industry accomplishments.

Initial Tropical Plants is North America’s largest indoor office plant company with service to financial and business offices worldwide. And our on-going indoor office plant maintenance programs ensure that your indoor plants stay lush and healthy year ‘round.

Inital Plants – Microfresh

Initial Tropical Plants continues its commitment to improving the quality of life in the workplace with the addition of Microfresh. We call this the 360-degree approach. The addition of plants in the workplace boosts morale, reduces absenteeism and enhances a company’s brand image. Studies have shown that plants provide natural air purification, but what about odors often found in closed workspaces. According to the EPA, indoor air can be five times worse than outdoor air – with odors from smoke, perspiration, fungi and more.

Until recently there have only been products offered that mask odors by covering them up with heavy scenting. Microfresh doesn’t just mask odors…it neutralizes them by combining the very latest odor remediation technology with a newly-patented diffusion system. Of all the five senses, the sense of smell is by far the most memorable. How do you want your business to be remembered?

In fact, we are so confident that you will experience a remarkable difference in your workplace with the addition of Microfresh; we are willing to let you try it free for 30 days.

To learn more about Microfresh or the 30-day free offer, email us at microfresh@initialplants.com or click here.
